Call for New Trustees

Opportunity to Serve on Schools For Children’s Our Board of Trustees

Schools for Children is looking for volunteers interested in joining our Board of Trustees – individuals who believe in the power of education to transform learning and transform lives.  Our programs are all about personalized learning, believing in the power of community, promoting social-emotional learning and striving for academic excellence. Join us in shaping the future of our schools and programs and help us make a difference in the lives of our students.

About Schools for Children

Schools for Children (SFC) is a non-profit organization that creates, operates and connects distinct pillars of independent, therapeutic, and extended learning programs and schools. Each of our schools and programs is designed to meet the unique learning needs of their students in a supportive community. The respective pillars draw strength from their common foundation. Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging rest at the very center of this foundation.  By fostering best practices, innovation, financial sustainability, inclusive communities, and specialized expertise, SFC enables our schools and programs to empower all students to develop agency and be academically, socially and emotionally successful.

The Board of Trustees

Schools for Children is governed by an elected Board of Trustees. The Trustees are active leaders in their own professional and civic circles and share a commitment to providing quality educational and support services to today’s children and adolescents.

Trustees become involved in issues relating to independent schooling (Lesley Ellis School), extended learning programs (Winn Brook Extended Learning) and therapeutic special education settings (Dearborn Academy, Dearborn STEP and Seaport Academy). They are provided a rare opportunity to make a direct and meaningful contribution to today’s young people through their active participation on our Board.

We seek a diverse Board reflective of the different constituencies served by Schools for Children. Trustees are elected to serve three-year terms; multiple terms are both permitted and encouraged. The Board of Trustees ordinarily meets 5 times per year to exert leadership over the affairs of the corporation; sub-committees meet an additional 5 or 6 times per year.
