On Saturday, March 12, representatives from Schools for Children and their program schools - Seaport Academy and Dearborn Academy - attended the Massachusetts Federation for Children with Special Needs annual conference: Visions of Community .The conference hosted over 600 parents, professionals and educators. Staff members got the opportunity to describe their specialized programs to attendees visiting the exhibition halls.
Howard Rossman, Ph.D., Director of Dearborn Academy, participated in a panel, which included representatives from the Elon and Gifford schools, and was moderated by Attorney Richard Cole. The panel topic was “Strategies for Transforming Youth with Emotional and Behavioral Challenges.” Panelists discussed strategies that can help students in school recommit to learning, experience success, and address their various social, emotional, and learning issues. The fifty parents, educators and advocates attending the session shared personal stories and raised questions for the panelists to consider.
