April Conference Offers Fresh Perspectives On Student-Centered Learning

The National Institute for Student-Centered Education (NISCE) will host INSPIRE 2013: The First NISCE Conference on Student-Centered Education in Boston, MA on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport. This is a one-day conference of lectures, workshops and presentations designed to bring together the latest thinking on the challenges and benefits of student-centered education.

Education professionals and others seeking fresh perspectives on the how and the why of student-centered learning will enjoy an engaging line-up of passionate presenters and panelists offering many different perspectives on learning, as well as unique opportunities to network and participate in sessions with experts and peers from a variety of different backgrounds and communities.

Confirmed speakers include educational neuroscientist Todd Rose who is a faculty member at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and author of the forthcoming Square Peg (Hyperion, February, 2013). Taylor Mali, a slam poet and author of an acclaimed book of essays What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World (Putnam, 2012) will deliver the second keynote of the day.

“This conference will offer many kinds of sessions—from keynotes to panels, posters and hands-on workshops,” said NISCE conference director Alyssa Kierkegaard. “We’re also soliciting proposals for IGNITE presentations. We expect these five minute-20 slide presentations to be an extremely popular part of the conference.” Those interested in presenting at the conference can find details at

“It’s not often that you get educators from across the PK-12 educational spectrum, parents, administrators, scientists and psychologists and others talking with each other and sharing ideas on improving education,” said Dr. Ted Wilson, Executive Director of NISCE. “We’re excited to bring together such diverse communities for this important event.”
