On Tuesday, April 12, 2011 the Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools (maaps) will hold a free Greater Boston Special Education Parent Advocacy Workshop.
Attendees will learn about the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, parents’ rights and responsibilities and will be briefed on how to:
- Advocate for the services needed by their child
Access appropriate assessments
Find a program or school that provides the right services and offers their child the best chance for success
Parents need to become better informed and learn how to be strong advocates so that they can become central players on their child's educational team. This workshop will offer parents a foundation to accomplish these goals as well as provide print and online resources to help ensure they understand both their rights and their responsibilities.
The workshop will take place from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Roxbury Community College, 1234 Columbus Avenue, Roxbury, MA. Both a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by calling maaps at 781-245-1220 or registering online.
