Although stuttering has long been thought to be a personality disorder or even the result of poor parenting, the causes appear are genetic, according to an article in the New England Journal of Medicine. Stuttering can make children and adults self-conscious and anxious, but with support and care, many individuals are able to manage and even overcome their stuttering.
