Doug Weinstock of Families First is next up in Lesley Ellis School's Parent Education speaker series...
------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Children are born free of prejudice, but they notice differences and internalize stereotypic biases at a younger age than most people think. This workshop helps parents examine their own points of view, their language and their behaviors, as part of the effort to help children resist prejudice. Additionally, the workshop helps parents respond to children's observations of differences in ways that positively influence their attitudes and avoid stereotyping and prejudice. " Doug Weinstock has a Masters degree in education and Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard. His professional experience began as a classroom teacher for nine years before moving on to become a school principal. He has been facilitating parenting groups for over ten years. The Lesley Ellis School Parent Education Series is designed to educate parents within the community on important subjects facing young children and provide resources to enhance parenting skills. Each program provides an intimate setting in which parents can receive an informal education on important topics such as child development, diversity and communication and allow them an opportunity for group discussion and a Q & A period. Discussions are lead by an expert trained in the area of the program topic and structured to meet the particular concerns of attending parents. |
